Blacksmith Courses

Come to the forge and try your hand at blacksmithing under the expert guidance of Master Craftsman Nigel Barnett.  This hands-on course enables you to make a variety of items to take home with you. If you want to make something specific then let us know – we will try and accommodate your requirements!

One or two day courses available.  Courses are run on a Friday/Saturday and the charge is £160 per day per person for up to 8 hours tuition. All tools and safety equipment is provided but students need to wear old clothes and stout, comfortable boots/shoes and bring a packed lunch.

DAY 1   is about learning the basics of handling metal using lots of different tools and equipment. Depending on how quickly you pick up the skills you can expect to take home 3 – 5 different items to be proud of!  Examples of what you can make on a one day course; poker, BBQ tools, small shovel, oak leaf coat hook, key rings, jewellry.

DAY 2  allows attendees to build on their skills making more ornate or complex items such as candle sticks, small knives or axes, poppies, small sculptures – alternatively if you have a specific idea or topic then just ask – we will see what we can do!

Why not complete the experience with an overnight stay in our comfortable Shepherd’s hut situated in our peaceful wooded sculpture trail?  £40 per night for up to two people. Alternatively, you can camp – just bring your own tent. We do charge £5 for the use of kitchen and shower block.
